Barbeque Nation

cuisine: Multi-cuisine

Where: RDB Boulevard, Block EP and GP

When: Open all week; noon to 2.45pm for lunch, 7pm-10.45pm for dinner

What to expect: The daily buffet at this 120-seater serves more than 40 dishes, including a range of grilled goodies and salads. The must-haves include Hariyali Chicken and Barbeque Grilled Paneer.

voiceover: “We have an open kitchen, so diners can see the food being prepared. There is a barbecue grill at the centre of every table where people can cook their dishes like they want it, since some of the dishes are served 90 per cent cooked,” says Priyotosh Choudhary, business manager, Barbeque Nation.

OMG

cuisine: Indian

Where: Infinity Benchmark Building, ground floor, Block EP and GP

When: Open all week; noon to 3.30pm for lunch and 7pm-10.30pm for dinner

What to expect: The 80-cover well-lit eatery has eye-catching wall-to-wall decorations. Try the spicy Murg Sikandari and Half-grilled Prawns.

voiceover: “Peshawari and Awadhi food are our specialities. There are barbecue grills on every table,” says F&B manager Diptaman Deyashi.

Ocean Grill

cuisine: Multi-cuisine

Where: Infinity Benchmark Building, first floor, Block EP and GP

When: Open all week; noon to 11pm

What to expect: Water tiles, stone walls and a boat-shaped buffet table that welcomes diners to a “seafront” restaurant with 88 seats. If you are unsure what to pick, order after reading the tablemat that lists dishes according to sun signs. You can safely tuck into the Mixed Grilled Seafood Platter (crab, prawn, bekti and other seafood marinated in herbs and wine, grilled and served with a spicy herb sauce).

voiceover: “Calcuttans love seafood and what better than a restaurant that specialises in grilled seafood. Though our focus is on the Sector V crowd, I’m sure the concept will attract people from across the city,” says Debrup Rudra, managing director.

Bhojohori Manna

cuisine: Bengali

where: Globsyn Crystal Building, mezzanine floor, Block EP

when: Open all week; noon to 10pm

what to expect: All the Bengali dishes you have already tried at the other Bhojohori stops. Pop picks are Jumbo Ilish Barishali and Jumbo Chingri Malaikari. This outlet has an all-white decor with around 90 seats.

voiceover: “People keep coming back to Bhojohori Manna for the authentic Bengali dishes that are served here,” says Siddharth Banerjee, business partner.

pocket pinch: Rs 350-plus for a meal for two.

Hing

cuisine: Multi-cuisine

where: J 1/6, Block EP

when: Open all week; noon to midnight

What to expect: The bright blue-and-red decor is complemented by walls that sport inspirational messages like “look down, only when you have to lift someone”. The pop picks at this 96-cover bite stop are Toffee Chicken (minced chicken balls in a cashew gravy) and Assorted Veg Platter (stuffed mushrooms, stuffed potatoes, corn and paneer, seekh kebab and veg shashlik).

Azad Hind Dhaba

cuisine: Indian

Where: Globsyn Crystal Building, ground floor, Block EP and GP (opposite IndiSmart Hotel)

When: Open all week; 11am-2am

What to expect: Just like the main branch in Ballygunge, this 72-seat outlet — done up like a pind (village) with patachitra on the mud walls and terracotta lamps — too prides itself on its Punjabi dishes. Do try their Gosht Hussainy (a thick creamy mutton dish with almond paste) and Lawrence Road de Mutton Tikke, which is named after a road in Amritsar.

voiceover: “Though our patrons are mostly from Sector V, families from Salt Lake, Lake Town and even south Calcutta drop in. Most come here for Kakori Kebabs and Gosht Hussainy,” says owner Rajesh Sharma.

quick bites

Tea Junction Express

Where: RDB Boulevard, Block EP and GP; Bengal Intelligent Park, ground floor, Block EP and GP

When: Open all week; 24x7 at RDB Boulevard; 9am-11pm at Bengal Intelligent Park

What to expect: If you feel like snacking at odd hours, the RDB Boulevard outlet is where you should head to. Pick samosas,

sandwiches or apple cake to go with masala tea and more.

Pocket Pinch: Starts from Rs 12.

CCD Lounge

Where: RDB Boulevard, Block EP and GP

When: Open all week; 9am-11pm

What to expect: Great for a laid-back adda with something hot or cold to sip on. One can dig into pastas, sandwiches and desserts. Regulars swear by the Pasta Verde (pasta with spinach and cheese sauce) and Maharaja Crush (Alphonso mango puree, ginger and lime cordial).

mcdonald’s

Where: 34/2 Ashram Building, Block GM

When: Monday to Friday, 11am to midnight; 11am-11pm on Saturday and Sunday

What to expect: This 110-seater McD’s draws burger lovers from all across Salt Lake. The pop picks here are McSpicy Chicken burger and McChicken burger. The ice creams are a big hit too.

KFC

Where: Globsyn Crystal Building, Block EP

When: Open all week; 11am-11pm

What to expect: With about 80 seats, this KFC — brought into Sector V by brothers Romit and Rahul Dasgupta of Globsyn — is quite a crowd-puller. Fave bites include Chicken Zinger (spicy chicken with lettuce and mayonnaise sauce in a bun) and Fiery Grilled chicken.

Pocket Pinch: Rs 25-plus.

Fuel.Inn

where: Globsyn Crystal Building, Block EP

when: Open Monday to Saturday; 11am-11pm

what to expect: At this 110-seater sports bar — sport lovers watch matches on giant screens while munching and sipping — the tabletops resemble either a carrom, ludo or snakes-and-ladders board. Shawarma rolls and salads are the top draws.

voiceover: “We serve 32 types of kebabs and different combo meals that target office-goers,” says Anirban Mazumdar, managing director.

Wow! Momo

Where: RDB Boulevard, Block EP and GP

When: Open 24x7 Tuesday to Saturday; closes at 10pm on Sunday and opens at 8am on Monday

What to expect: Momos with all kinds of stuffing — Chicken Pan-fried momo, Paneer fried momo, Chocolate momo.

Pocket Pinch: Rs 20 per piece.

Biryani Xpress

Where: Bengal Intelligent Park, ground floor, Block EP and GP

When: Open all week; 11am-10pm

What to expect: Take-away biryanis in microwave-friendly

containers. Try Chicken Keema Biryani and Mutton Keema Biryani.

PIZZA Corner

Where: RDB Boulevard, Block EP and GP

When: Open all week; 11am-11pm

What to expect: This 85-seater stop is known for its All Meat Pizza (with lamb and chicken toppings) and Veg Extravaganza Pizza.

PAPARAZZI

Where: Globsyn Crystal Building, Block EP

When: Open all week; 11am-11pm

What to expect: This 50-seater impresses with its quick

service. Try the Paparazzi Fondue and Prawn Newburg.
