The story of the new Star Jalsha show Panchami starts with a pregnant woman who dies soon after giving birth to a baby girl, Panchami, at a temple. The priest of the temple is the only witness to this incident. Panchami is portrayed as a loyal devotee of Lord Shiva and she has an inborn ability to connect with snakes. She commands over them. Panchami gets bewildered when she realises this power... she is clueless when it comes to figuring out whether it is a blessing or a curse. On the other hand, Kinjal Chowdhury is a young, dynamic entrepreneur who has studied abroad and is now trying to discover a life-saving drug from snake venom. The central plot of the story revolves around these two characters. The character of Panchami will be played by Sushmita Dey, who is best known for her work in Bouma Ekghor and the character of Kinjal Chowdhury will be played by Rajdeep Gupta, who is making a comeback on television. Rajdeep started off his acting career with the role of Ishaan, in the starstudded serial Ogo Bodhu Sundori, which was showcased on Star Jalsha in 2009. Speaking on the occasion, a channel spokesperson said, “We believe in presenting a different kind of content to our viewers. Panchami will be a visual treat for our viewers and shall enthrall them with mystical drama set in the modern world”. Panchami airs from December 5, Monday to Sunday at 8.30pm on Star Jalsha.
