YouTuber MrBeast has reached another beast of a milestone — he has overtaken T-Series as the most subscribed YouTuber. With 269 million subscribers, he is ahead of T-Series by a cool three million. The 26-year-old said he has “avenged” PewDiePie by overtaking T-Series.

For many years, YouTuber Felix Kjellberg, aka PewDiePie, was the number one in terms of subscribers but then in 2019, the music company marched on. For T-Series it was a big achievement and it showed how the company turned its fortunes around in the digital world since starting rolling out music on cassettes in 1983-84. Today, PewDiePie has 111 million subscribers.

By going past T-Series, MrBeast proved that content creators have the ultimate say. The milestone was immediately celebrated as Jimmy Donaldson published a screenshot showing he had gained two million more in a day, which he said is a one-day record for the channel.

Donaldson tried to show his support for Kjellberg’s campaign to stay on top back in 2019 and he even showed up to the Super Bowl with several friends who wore shirts that together spelled out “SUB 2 PEW DIE PIE”. He posted on X (formerly Twitter): “After six years we have finally avenged Pewdiepie.”

On May 16, MrBeast challenged Bhushan Kumar, the head of Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited (the business name of which is T-Series), to a boxing match. He posted a picture on X showing their YouTube subscribers and wrote: “I challenge the CEO of T-Series to a boxing match.” It reminded many of how Elon Musk, the owner of X, challenged Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Meta Platforms, to a cage match last year.

MrBeast has a grip on younger people and he produces videos known for both their scale and their adherence to growth strategies. Within seconds of clicking on any MrBeast video, he could be talking to his millions of subscribers. Titles to his videos are written in a classic clickbait style, like ‘In 10 Minutes This Room Will Explode!’
