Jawan actor Vijay Sethupathi dons a blood-soaked chequered shirt and carries a sharp weapon in his hand as he rests on a barber’s chair in the first-look poster of his 50th film Maharaja, unveiled on Sunday at an event in Chennai.

The poster shows a bearded Sethupathi with a bandaged left ear and blood dripping from his feet. The location appears to be a police station.

The Vikram Vedha actor shared the poster on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “#MaharajaFirstLook”.

Maharaja will also star director-turned-actor Anurag Kashyap in an important role. Primarily known for his distinct directorial ventures like Black Friday, Dev.D, Gangs of Wasseypur, Mukkabaaz, Ugly and Raman Raghav 2.0, Kashyap has also shown his acting talent in films like Luck By Chance, Akira and AK vs AK. With Maharaja he is all set to make his second appearance on screen in Tamil films after 2018’s Imaikkaa Nodigal.

Maharaja is directed by Nithilan Saminathan, who is known for helming Kurangu Bommai (2017). The film will also feature Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam and Abhirami in important roles. The film is produced by Sudhan Sundaram under Passion Studios and Jagadish Palanisamy for The Route.

Sethupathi recently made his Hindi film debut as weapon dealer Kaalie in Shah Rukh Khan’s action entertainer Jawan. Released on September 7, the Atlee directorial has reportedly earned more than Rs 280 crore in four days since its release in India alone.
