It has taken three years for Jeet and Koel Mullick to patch up after their professional break-up, and now there’s no stopping Tolly’s hot-and-fresh jodi from striking the best deals.
Within days of Sujit Guha hitting the floors with their comeback film (still untitled), Jeet and Koel are ready for Saat Pake Bandha — a modern take on the Suchitra Sen-Soumitra Chatterjee-starrer.
Produced jointly by Shree Venkatesh Films and Surinder Films, Saat Pake Bandha will mark the directorial debut of Mumbai-based Sujit Mondal, who has assisted Vikram Bhatt in films like Ghulam, Raaz, Awara Paagal Deewana and Aitbaar.
“We were ready with the script for over a year and a half. But only Jeet and Koel would suit the roles. In between, we’ve had several rounds of talks with Jeet and Koel for a film together and finally they agreed. The first film we did with them was Bandhan, which was a superhit. Then we did Shubhadrishti and now Saat Pake Bandha. It’s like a trilogy,” says Mahendra Soni of Shree Venkatesh Films.
Playing a married man in Saat Pake Bandha is something Jeet is looking forward to. “Koel and I played lovers in Bandhan and husband-wife in Shubhadrishti. Now, we play a married couple again. The roles are challenging and I hope we do them with conviction. It would be great working with Shree Venkatesh Films again,” said Jeet.
Sujit Guha’s film has helped the two break the ice after the long gap. Jeet agrees: “Now, Koel and I are more comfortable than the first few days of shooting for Sujit Guha’s film. Koel has always been a good co-star and now she is even better. She has matured as an actress and understands the technicalities of acting a lot better. I still get the same vibes from her, the way I used to when we were doing a lot of films together.”
Koel too is excited about playing wife to Jeet again four years after Shubhadrishti. “I haven’t really played a married girl in my recent films. The audience have been seeing me in bubbly, chirpy girl next door roles. So, Saat Pake Bandha will be different. In this film, Jeet and my character get into an arranged marriage and they go through a lot after that. I play a very level-headed girl,” says Koel.
