Singer-cum-composer Guru Randhawa, who shot into the limelight with tracks such as High Rated Gabru, Suit Suit (from Hindi Medium), Ban Ja Rani (from Tumhari Sulu) Fashion, and Lahore, has come up with a new song, Made In India, which has already garnered over 10 million views on YouTube.
On a multi-city tour and riding high on his success, the singer-composer spoke to The Woods about his new release
The Woods: How did your musical journey begin?
Guru Randhawa: It all started with Lahore, but life changed after I released Patola in 2015. Then we started doing shows, earning money and things started moving. I think that was the turning point of my career. People started liking my songs and the number of fans grew.
♦ Tell us about your experience in Bollywood and life after that?
Bollywood gave me a break with Suit Suit. The original Punjabi song was already a hit and I got the opportunity to feature in the video with Irrfan bhai. I think that was something big for me and my team.
♦ Tell us about your Made in India...
Made in India is a beautiful song and was shot on location in Milan. It was a mesmerising location and the frames came out right. The Milan administration also helped a lot and thanked us later for beautifully showcasing their city.
♦ Which director do you bond the best with?
I reunited with Gifty for Made in India after a long time. We had produced hits such as Lahore and High Rated Gabru and I consider him someone who brings out the best in me. Whenever we work together, we come up with hits.
♦ You are on an extensive city tour right now, how has the journey been so far?
We are covering nine cities and have already performed in Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad. The experience is quite rich. We are getting overwhelming response from the people.
♦ What is the future of independent music?
I believe in all kinds of music, but I do indie music the most because I think it has a wide scope. The future is bright. It is visible that despite being indie artistes, we are getting breaks in Bollywood. Indie artistes should focus on creating different kinds of music that would stand out.
