Easy-breezy yet stylish defines Jaya Rathore’s summer line for men

Flashy lights? Ramps? Blingy clothes? Nah! Calcutta-based designer Jaya Rathore’s preview of her menswear summer line was none of the above. The Audi showroom in  Mullickbazar served as the venue as a soiree set the note, with free-flowing wine and cheese. Models walked and posed next to Audi cars as a city band performed in the background.

“Fashion is becoming very random nowadays and I personally take it very seriously. I wanted the guests to feel free and be a part of the touch-and-feel experience that is so important. The focus was on the menswear, with light natural fabrics in shades like beige, lilac, rose pink and minty green. The colour khaki was also used in prints,” said Jaya.

Prints to pastels, the pocket square section was one of the busiest spots as many guests went back home with one that was instantly stitched.
Jaya’s showcase featured two installations — dark and light. The dark was more contemporary with shades like black and cobalt blue with light embroideries on fabrics like raw silk and cotton. The draped kurtas made of cotton-jersey were a draw. Made of summer silk, the bandhgala-lungi combo was an eye-catcher too. The installation titled ‘Light’ was Jaya’s “favourite”. “Summer is here, which is all about light shades. Bundi has always been my favourite and I also have sherwani with real zari work,” she said.

LOOKING BACK: Raima Sen was the star guest at the opening of My Lansdowne Memories — fashion designer Joy Mitra’s first showcasing in Calcutta, presented by 85 Lansdowne. Joy’s collection revolved around summer eveningwear and he dressed up Raima in a zardozi Anarkali and a brocade lehnga skirt. “Reconnecting with Raima after such a long time was great. A lot of my colleagues and friends came. My biggest takeaway was the appreciation and encouragement that I got. Truly a walk down memory lane,” said Joy. Picture: Rashbehari Das
