Remember that scene in Piku where Deepika Padukone peers into the mirror to adjust her earrings? Her kohl-rimmed eyes admiring herself? We admire them too! And nothing complements her peepers more than a pair of sexy sunglasses. The brand ambassador of Vogue Eyewear, who launched a new line in Mumbai on Wednesday, shared her eyewear faves and more with t2 over email.  

Are you a sunglass person?
Sunglasses are one of my favourite accessories. I never leave my house without a pair of sunglasses. I love experimenting with different styles from round to Aviators to cat-eye. 

How many pairs do you own? Which is your favourite pair?
I buy sunglasses all the time. I like trying out different styles. My current favourite from this collection is the piece with the enamel temple, which is a part of the Vogue Eyewear Blaze collection. 

What are the different styles that you have on your sunglass stand?
I like experimenting with my looks, so I have pairs in different colours, whites, pastels as well as staple blacks and brown tones. 

You look good in everything, but is there a style you think suits you best?
While I enjoy experimenting on the red carpet and in my public appearances, personally I like to keep it simple, classic. I like a lot of pastels, white, navy blue and a lot of blues. I prioritise comfort.

Do you have a dream pair that you would like to possess some day? 
No, not really. I think it depends on the look of the day, on your mood, what you’re feeling like or what you want to channel for the day, so anything from round to cat-eye to sometimes just basic optical frames. There is nothing really that I miss, but it is also fun to know that Vogue Eyewear has this amazing range where every day you can wake up and feel different and you have a pair that suits your mood and your look. 

Any iconic looks for you, like an Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or John Lennon and his glasses?

I think most recently, Cate Blanchett in Carol really stood out for me. To begin with, she personally is so elegant and specifically in the movie, the way she was styled and, in fact, what was iconic for me in that movie was some of the optical frames and sunglasses she wore.

In terms of fashion, what are your season’s favourites?
Season favourites again, keeping the weather in mind, it is important to wear things that are comfortable, which allows your skin to breathe, and wear colours that you are comfortable wearing, which suits your skin tone. I personally like the fresher blush pink, and mint green is my new favourite for the season.

I think what keeps me going is my passion for what I do, whether it’s the Foundation, clothing line, endorsements or the films that I do. I love my work, I love working. I’m passionate about what I do and I think that’s what keeps me going.
