Zee Bangla’s hit comedy Raja Goja got a fresh lease of life on Friday as the feature film Raja Goja No Problem, produced by singer Indranil Sen.

Taking the small-screen story forward, Raja Goja No Problem begins with a matchmaking session for Raja that goes awry when the would-be bride chooses Goja. After several twists and turns (read distractions), enter Nancy (Debleena), a swindler masquerading as a naive, pretty girl. The rest of the story is about how Raja and Goja catch Nancy in the act.

Saurabh Chakraborty, who plays Raja, says the serial was a huge hit among kids. “They loved our pairing. Now they can add this movie to their collection.” Goja, aka Ambarish Bhattacharya, echoed: “This is the first time a Bengali daily soap has come to the big screen on children’s demand.”

Debleena, the “anti-heroine”, expects the low-budget film to reach the target audience of four to 14-year-olds. “It’s a nonsensical film made in a sensible way,” she said.

Director Arindam Basu chose Debleena as he wanted “a good-looking actress as the villain”. “Kids shouldn’t get scared by the villain. It should be fun for them and I knew Debleena would pull it off,” he said.
