City couples broke weekday routine and dropped in for the Valentine’s Pub Nite, in association with t2, at The Saturday Club on February 14. This was the first time the club organised such an event on Valentine’s Day, and it boasted everything from mouth-watering food to a dance area where peppy music kept the tempo up. At the entrance, visitors were presented with red roses, and thereafter they stepped into a world of red balloons, candle-lit tables, smokin’ hot kebabs, complimentary glasses of wine and cheese... and some crackling chemistry.
A performance by the Tanya Sen quintet was a highlight that evening. “Being a V-Day gig, I chose a lot of love songs. But we also played a nice mix of pop, retro and rock ’n’ roll,” said the lead singer.
Entrepreneur Manas Borthakur teamed a casual white tee with denims; better-half Namrata donned the colour of the day. “The Saturday Club is our second home. The ambience tonight is just beautiful,” said Manas, partner, Red Hot Chilli Pepper. The couple came with friends who popped a bottle of champagne, celebrating love in style.
Who says Valentine’s Day is meant to be celebrated with lovers only? Friends (l-r) Renu Kandoi, Uma Khaitan and Sunita Bubna ushered in V-Day with a twist. “We love each other’s company and need no special occasion to spend some quality time together,” said Renu, the owner of Pizza Rhino. #friendshipgoals
Rashi Ray, 27, worked monochrome with a dash of red on her lips. We spotted her with friend Shalini Worah jiving to the tunes. “Being regulars at The Saturday Club, we just dropped in for some chill time, not knowing about the special V-Day event,” smiled Rashi.
The mushiest couple on the dance floor? Silver Jubilee couple Utpal Singh Roy and wife Protima. “I’d like to be married to her a hundred times again,” said Utpal, 70, one of the oldest members of the club and also the past-president, as wifey dearest smiled from ear-to-ear. The secret to a happy married life? “Communication is very important for a happy relationship,” said Protima.
Many shades of grey dominated The Saturday Club that evening. While Harman Bindra, 41, wore a grey casual tee, wife Geetika Bindra donned a different shade. “But I have red lips,” winked the 40-year-old.
“Tuesday being a weekday, people are busy but we are quite impressed with the turnout. Everybody has been complimenting the ambience. Tanya Sen is also quite amazing with her music, as for once we did not want Bollywood.”
