Akshay Kumar, who has played a variety of roles portraying different religions, has said the Hindi film industry is a very secular place.

Asked if he believes that the industry was the most secular place, Akshay said “Yes” at the trailer launch of Nanak Shah Fakir in Mumbai recently.

The Padman star also said religion shouldn’t be used by politicians for vote-bank politics. Asked if he thought the teachings of Guru Nanak should be adopted by all politicians who try to use religion to create vote bank politics, Akshay said: “I believe in it thoroughly. There is only one God and that God is yours. To bring religion in between everything. It is not done.”

Praising the film for delivering a beautiful message, he added: “This is such a film that I saw one and half years ago, this is the only film I saw twice on the same day — once with my mother and the other time I saw it alone. It is a beautiful film with a beautiful belief.”

The film is set to release on April 13.

Among Akshay’s current projects is Kesari, based on the Battle of Saragarhi. The film is on the battle fought before the Tirah Campaign on September 12, 1897, between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army and the Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen, and Akki plays havildar Ishar Singh.
