Caesar Gonsalves grooves at HHI.Picture by Sanjoy Chattopadhyaya |
In the last workshop Caesar Gonsalves did in Calcutta, around three months back, he saw how everyone from kids to aunties and uncles went crazy! “So though Bosco insisted on Delhi and Bangalore, I said: ‘No, Calcutta should be first’,” said Caesar.
The duo have started a six-month course that will include Bollywood hook steps from the top 10 current songs. It will be a mix of hip hop, flamenco and street dance. Bollywood Tadka, a separate segment, will have songs like Chikni Chameli. “We will also teach the Bosco Caesar hook steps for songs we have won awards for, be it Senorita or Twist,” said Caesar.
“People start dance classes for the sake of money but that’s not our idea. We are the only people who don’t teach you the full song because after 12 years of training, I realised that when you go to a disco, you mostly dance to the chorus of the song and remember only the signature moves,” said Caesar, whose all-time favourite dancers are John Travolta and Mithun Chakraborty. “So in the power-packed classes, you learn 20-30 songs in a month and the next time you go to a disco, no doubt you will be a smash hit!”
Caesar himself will be in town “at least twice a month”. A couple of chief instructors will come down to Calcutta and train the instructors here. “We are planning an academy on the outskirts of Mumbai, a school with seven to nine floors, which will be a dream come true for us. Bosco Caesar Dance Company will also travel to Siliguri, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Lucknow,” added the dance pro.

watch out for
Student of the Year, where I have done the song Vela with Varun (Dhawan), Sidharth (Malhotra) and Alia Bhatt. It is a disco song where the boys go out to party. I have done tutting, krumping, hip hop and bhangra. Varun has potential as a dancer.
Talaash, where I have done the title track... Kareena (Kapoor) is there. It is a retro set... a cabaret. Aamir (Khan) and Rani (Mukerji) are also there in the songs. Kareena is looking gorgeous in a red gown. Aamir is looking like a 19-year-old kid! I think he has been working out for Dhoom 3 and I could see all the 26 pack!
Hrithik Roshan
He is a perfectionist. You can give him rubbish — and trust me, I give him rubbish — and he brings out the best! Talking about him is like talking about your own professor who has taught you. My Bolly debut was Rind posh mal for Mission Kashmir... there was Kosak, a Russian dance form... we got calls from London asking us whether we used cables!
Shahid Kapoor
He was outstanding when I did Mauja hi mauja and Nagada. There I told him not to
dance. I wanted him to have fun.
Ranbir Kapoor
I worked with him on Wake Up Sid and then Chillar Party. I think he dances his heart out. If I do a musical, I will cast him because he is a good dancer and a good actor. He is superb in locking and break dancing.
Abhishek Bachchan
I have been saying this for so long, but nobody believes me. He is a superb performer. He did Dus bahane with me. Given the right song, he can really perform. He loves dancing, rapping, R&B. In Shararat, I made him hang from a scaffolding early morning at six and play some rubbish with my dancers. He was cursing me throughout the day!
Arjun Kapoor
He is the next big thing. He is a fabulous dancer. I have worked with him when he was an assistant and at that time he wasn’t as thin as he is now. Then also he could do all the steps... both the girl’s part and the boy’s! Graceful! And the floor move in Ladka hua jawan that he did wasn’t easy.
Farhan Akhtar
You see Senorita... he is better than Hrithik. He looks effortless! He couldn’t be looking like Abhay Deol in Senorita! Abhay made me do yoga all over Spain. He wanted 10 days of rehearsals and five days of shoot because he is scared of dancing.
KHAN DANCE:
The Khan who dances the best is Salman Khan. When we did Partner with him, we exploited a new side of Salman Khan. Bosco Caesar is Bosco Caesar because of Salman.
Can’t dance!
Arjun Rampal
He can just look nice!
Dino Morea
I still wonder why Pooja Bhatt cast him in a musical like Holiday. Dino... it’s okay, you are my friend!
Nikhil Dwivedi
He is the funniest. We were shooting in Dubai and I told him, just come like this and open your arms... he fractured his ankles on sand dunes!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
She is super talented and has a superb memory. She is good with expressions and she is very classy. She once did salsa for me and Cuban salsa is very erotic, yet she looked so classy!
Priyanka Chopra
She is a perfectionist. If she is coming in a helicopter, she would love to note down how many times the propeller spins! She keeps asking me 20 questions, which I like. For the Hero Honda ad with Hrithik,
I did locking, popping and break dance with her and she was fabulous in all.
Katrina Kaif
Her songs started becoming popular when we did Zara zara touch me. The first time I saw her dance was in my office where my wife (Alveena) and one of my assistants were training her. I was like okay. Bosco saw her and said, ‘Bahut kaam karna hai... nahin jamega.’ I knew the style we had selected for her, she would do well. We had mixed Beyonce and Shakira because she is tall and has a long torso. She just dedicates herself... she will only give you a take
when she is ready.
Kareena Kapoor
She is a performer and she performs with her face. The last song I did with her was for Talaash. It’s cabaret mixed with retro. She gives me a 500 per cent in total, with her face and body language.
