What is it:  Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a fellowship programme for students of basic sciences who wish to pursue a career in scientific research. The scholarship supports students till the pre-PhD level. In addition, summer programmes are also arranged for students at elite research and educational institutions across India  
Who can apply: Students of basic sciences in classes XI (Stream SA), XII (Stream SX) or undergraduation (Stream SB) who want to pursue research studies in India (for details see website)

What is it: Rhodes scholarships aspire to create ‘leaders for the world’s future’. Every year, five Indian scholars are selected on the basis of their intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service, to join 78 other Rhodes scholars from around the world at the University of Oxford.
Who can apply: Indian citizens between the ages of 19 and 25 (as of October 1, 2015) who have received at least one first-class degree from an Indian university. Final year students with exceptional academic backgrounds may also apply

What is it: National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, invites applications from students who are pursuing engineering, MBBS and MBA degrees. NTPC offers Rs 4,000 a month for four years for engineering students, 24 months for MBA students and for the full course (excluding internship) for MBBS students
Who can apply: Students from scheduled castes and tribes and those who are physically challenged. They must pursue degrees in engineering, medicine, business management from IITs, NITs, BITS Pilani, IIMs, XLRI, FMS and government medical colleges, and have successfully passed their first year examinations in the first attempt in academic year 2014-15.

What is it: Raman fellowship for post-doctoral research enables young Indian researchers to interact with the American academic/scientific community and get first hand information of developments taking place at the international level. It also helps acquaint them with new academic and scientific research methods and to participate in collaborative research projects. The fellows will get $3000 a month for 6 to 12 months and a contingency grant of Rs 50,000 
Who can apply: The candidate should have a PhD degree, be less than 40 years of age and a permanent teacher
