Mumbai, March 17: HDFC Bank today said it had launched Chillr, a mobile app allowing its customers to transfer money instantly to any contact in their phonebook.

The app will enable users to send money in three steps. First, the sender will have to choose the recipient from the list of Chillr contacts. Second, they will have to enter the amount to be transferred and a message for the recipient. In the final step, the sender will have to enter the secret M-Pin and press pay, following which the recipient will instantly receive the money in his or her account.

However, to avail the facility the users need to have a smartphone and an immediate payment service (IMPS-an instant real time inter-bank electronic fund transfer service) registered bank account.

The users will have to download the app. They can send money to the recipients having an account in any other bank. The bank will charge Rs 3.50 along with service tax for each transaction.

According to the bank, with this app, the customers will no longer have to ask for account information and would be able to cut down on the time taken to add beneficiaries if they wish to transfer money. They can send and request money directly on their mobile.

"Customer convenience is central to our concept of digital. From students to young professionals, migrant workers in cities to customers in rural India, this app is convenient to send and receive money using the mobile phone in a secured manner. This is one more important step by the bank to leverage technology and digital to offer banking services anytime and anywhere," said Nitin Chugh, (head) digital banking of HDFC Bank.
