The paper and packaging arm of Emami Group is setting up a plant in Gujarat at a proposed investment of Rs 2,000 crore.

Emami Paper Mills will set up a 2.25-lakh-tonne plant manufacturing multi-layered packaging boards and an 18MW captive power plant at an investment of Rs 1,000 crore in the first phase. The plant is being set up on 103 acres in the Saykha industrial area at the Bharuch district in Gujarat.

In the second phase, the company will double the capacity with an equal additional investment to install a new machine. The project has received the necessary environmental clearance from the Gujarat government.

The company, which produces newsprint and multilayered packaging boards, has a total production capacity of 3.35 lakh tonnes per annum.

“With the setting up of the first phase, an additional business turnover of around Rs 1,000 crore will be generated. We target to complete the first phase by early 2020 and commence our commercial production in the first half of the same year,” said Aditya V. Agarwal, director, Emami Group.

“With the completion of the first phase, we expect to cater to the increasing demand for multi-layered coated paperboards as our total capacity would go up to 5.6 lakh tonnes,” said P.S. Patwari, CEO of Emami Paper Mills.
