Police nabbed Bishunpurwa village resident Jailal Yadav (20) on Friday for allegedly raping a 10-year-old.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when the Class IV student went to an orchard on the outskirts of her village under the jurisdiction of Bathwariya police station.

But she was brought to the Bagaha main hospital only on Friday after she complained of severe abdominal pain.

Bagaha superintendent of police Sunil Kumar said: “The incident came to light today (Friday) when the victim was brought to the hospital by her mother after she complained of pain in her uterus because of infection.”

The statement of the victim was recorded and an FIR was lodged.

The girl’s father is a migrant labourer who has not come home for the past few months.

Superintendent of police Kumar said: “The father of the accused, Chander Yadav, persuaded the victim and her mother not to inform the police and tried to hush up the matter.”

The victim has been referred to MJK Hospital in Bettiah for treatment.

A medical examination would also be conducted to confirm rape.

Jailal, the accused, has been booked under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 376 (II)(i) of the Indian Penal Code. He is in police custody at present.
