St Michael’s High School, the 155-year-old institution of the city, celebrated its 25th annual day on November 23 in a three- hour event from 5pm. Apart from song and dance, chief guest Anil K. Bhowmick, the IIT-Patna director, and school principal Father Peter Arockiasamy also presented the best teacher and best student awards.

High on spirit

The students showcased the country’s unity in diversity at the event titled, Festival of life in the spirit.

A puppet show, Nek Bano Ek Bano, and a jugalbandi of Hawaiian and Spanish music to the beats of the tabla were also organised.

A group of classical singers also presented Raag Malkauns, while students of Class XI danced to Koi mil gaya from Karan Johar’s first campus film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Students of the junior section dressed up as jawans who selflessly guard the country’s borders, while another group spread the message of peace.

“The versatile St Michael’s High School students presented an action-packed evening of tradition and modernity,” said Rajendra Agarwal, a member of the school’s 1969 batch, who was in the audience.

Colours of India

The senior secondary students prepared a mixed bag of dance. They presented Kathak to Humdum suniyo re from Saathiya, ghoomar (a traditional folk dance of Rajasthan) to Shubha Mudgal’s Rangeelo maro dholna among several folk forms of India.

The audience could not stop clapping when students presented garba to the foot-tapping tunes of Nagada sang dhol from Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. The evening came to an end with the National Anthem.

“We loved the students’ performance to Maa tujhe salaam,” said Pranav Kumar, a member in the audience.
