A minor girl studying in Class IX was allegedly kidnapped and raped by the driver of a pick-up van in Supaul district, around 250km northeast of Patna, on Tuesday night.

The girl (14) was admitted to Supaul Sadar hospital on Wednesday morning. Preliminary medical tests confirmed rape. Police said the pick-up van driver kidnapped the girl and her younger sister around 5pm on Tuesday when they were returning from their agriculture fields under the jurisdiction of Pipra police station. The driver held the two sisters captive on the pretext of dropping them at their house in Birpur, a sub-divisional town, around 2km from their field.

When the vehicle reached Raghopur, the driver offered them tea containing some intoxicants. The girls fell unconscious after having the tea. Thereafter, the driver outraged the modesty of the elder girl in the vehicle. The girls were later found lying unconscious on the road near Dinapatti village around 10pm. Residents informed Pipra police, who reached the spot and took the girls to the police station.

The station house officer of Supaul woman police station, Premlata Dhupashree, said the girls were in a state of shock. A complaint has been lodged and the statements of the victim and her younger sister have been recorded.

The culprit has been identified as Arun Kumar, a resident of Raghopur village in Supaul district. "Raids are on to nab him," the SHO said. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

The preliminary report, the SHO said, revealed that one of the two girls had been raped.
