Patna, May 2: A 50-year-old mother requested chief minister Nitish Kumar for the safety of her son, lodged in Beur Central Jail, at the janata darbar held here today.

Moti Devi, alleged that her son, Pawan Singh had to be hospitalised after he was attacked by Guddu alias Chanakya, the son of former MP Vijay Krishna, inside the jail.

Pawan was a Bihar police constable posted in the high-security zone outside the chief minister’s residence. He was arrested in a murder case in 2007 and a lower court sentenced him to life imprisonment. On the other hand, former MP Vijay Krishna and his son Guddu are accused in the killing of a contractor and JD (U) leader Satendra Singh.

Moti Devi pleaded in front of the chief minister that his son is not safe in the jail and he is being harassed by other inmates time and again.

“Sir, my son, who was posted at the chief minister’s house is being harassed by the inmates and this time, Guddu attacked him with an iron rod after which he had to be hospitalised. I want you to look into the matter and take action against the jail authorities who are helping them do such things.”

She told Nitish that she has been receiving threat calls from Guddu. “He has threatened to kill me if I complain to the police.”

She told The Telegraph that Nitish asked him to meet home secretary Amir Subhani.

“He (Subhani) has asked me to meet the jail IG, Ramesh Lal at the old secretariat. It’s been four years that my son is behind bars. He is innocent and injustice is being done to him. His cell phone was found from the murder site because one day prior to the murder of trader Rajesh Singh, one of his friends asked for his phone. This was not enough to prove him guilty. I have filed a petition in the Patna High Court against the order and I am sure he will get justice.”

She said: “I am scared that before the matter reaches the court, he might be attacked again in jail. The lower court found him guilty that does not mean people will attack him like this. There are some rules. He must get some protection.”

Commenting further on the issue, she added: “I just want to ask how Guddu has been calling me from inside the jail. A prisoner is not allowed to keep a cellphone. I am sure that even jail authorities are involved in the matter.”
