Democracy seems not to be the right enjoyed by a domestic help in many a household these days.
Pramod Paswan, 35, is struggling for his life at the Nasariganj referral hospital in Rohtas district, around 165km west of Patna, after his employer Sanoj Singh thrashed him on Monday for defying his diktat to favour him in the election to primary agricultural credit society.
Pramod was admitted with multiple injuries.
The incident happened when Pramod returned to Sanoj’s house after exercising his franchise at the local polling booth. Sanoj lost his cool when he had come to know that Pramod cast his vote in favour of his rival candidate — Savita Devi, wife of Mantoo Paswan.
Sanoj, a resident of Nasariganj, had hoped that his domestic help would favour him in the election. However, Pramod lent his support to the candidate of his caste. Sanoj, accompanied by a few supporters, later visited Pramod’s ancestral house at Medanipur and set it on fire.
Nasariganj police station house officer Ashok Kumar Singh rushed to the spot and got Pramod admitted to the hospital. Sanoj’s three accomplices — Ramji Singh, Rudal Kumar and Manish Singh — have already been arrested, said the SHO.
A source in the state election office said Savita won the election, result of which was declared on Tuesday.
State Scheduled Caste Commission vice-chairperson Renu Devi said: “The commission would inquire into the matter and submit its report to the government.”
