Patna: Senior BJP leader and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday accused RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav of hiding a business of his, of evading taxes and keeping the Election Commission in the dark about his business interest.

"Tejashwi's firm, Lara & Sons, has been working as handling and storage agent for Jindal Steel since 2012," Sushil said at a media interaction. "He not only hid this information from the Election Commission (EC), but also didn't pay taxes despite doing business. Also, he showed zero turnover in his VAT return." Sushil shared copies of a document to substantiate his claim.

Sushil also pointed out that the firm had been functioning from a premises on a two-acre plot in Patna City and sought to know from Tejashwi from where he got such a huge plot.

Asked what was preventing the state commercial taxes department from taking action against the firm, Sushil said: "A notice will be sent in this regard and action taken in accordance with the rules."

"What's preventing Sushil from taking action if there has been tax evasion," asked RJD spokesperson and MLA Shakti Yadav.

Tejashwi posted a series of tweets in Hindi, calling Sushil a rumour monger and asking him to order a probe. He also asked him if only he and his ancestors could do business, naming Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi in the tweet.

Shakti questioned Sushil's claim about hiding business information from the EC. "Has he (Sushil) assumed the role of EC?" he asked.
