Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday took a dig at chief minister Nitish Kumar on the law and order issue in Bihar, claiming that it had collapsed in the NDA regime.

He was speaking before leaving for Dullaur village in Jandaha block of Vaishali district where criminals had gunned down Manish Kumar Sahni, a block pramukh, in broad day light on August 13. Sahni, an RLSP leader, led the party's extremely backward classes (EBC) cell in Vaishali district.

"The law and order situation in Bihar is deteriorating by the day and the Nitish government is unable to control crime," Tejashwi said outside his 10 Circular Road residence. "Neither the police nor the administration have any control on criminals. Few days back, you all know how an under-secretary level official was shot dead at his residence and more recently, the public representative was shot dead in Jandaha."

After Sahni's murder, even RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha had slammed the chief minister on the law and order front, asking how many more deaths would it take for the Nitish administration to wake up. He had gone on to say that broad daylight murders proved the criminals were acting without fear.

Sahni was shot dead in the block premises, around 50km north of Patna. Altogether 11 persons, including JDU MLA Umesh Kushwaha, former block pramukh Jai Shankar Singh and former mukhya Rambabu Singh, have been named as accused in the FIR lodged with Jandaha police station on the basis of a statement by Sahni's elder brother Om Prakash Sahni.

In the afternoon, Tejashwi reached the village and met family members of Sahni. He was there for around an hour and a half.

"I've been repeatedly saying that there is Rakshas Raj in Bihar and Nitish ji is not able to control crime," Tejashwi said. "The so-called double-engine government is patronising crime and criminals in the state. Nitish is giving them shelters. He only thinks about his chair while ignoring innocent people."

He said because of increasing crime, Bihar's name was being maligned at the national level but the chief minister was only bothered about his vested interests. He also charged Nitish with patronising the RSS in Bihar while mentioning the assault on Friday on Sanjay Kumar, an assistant professor of sociology at Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari.

"What's this going on Mr. CM? RSS goons in direct patronage of RSS programmed.VC assaulted and almost lynched a professor; they poured patrol to burn him alive. Nitish Ji, why don't you open a RSS Shakha in CM house and be 'Sarsanghchalak of it?" Tejashwi tweeted.

JDU spokesperson Arvind Nishad said Tejashwi has gone to Vaishali to do politics and he has no intention to express condolence to Sahni's kin.

"Tejashwi never bothered to visit Raghopur, which is also in Vaishali and his own Assembly constituency, when Dalit homes were burnt," Arvind said. "Now, he has gone to meet Sahni's family not to express his condolences but to claim political mileage. He never once opened his mouth on the Jehanabad molestation case, which shows that he is an anti-Dalit leader," Nishad alleged.
