Patna: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Wednesday slammed chief minister Nitish Kumar for campaigning for BJP Araria bypoll candidate Pradeep Singh.
Tejashwi alleged that earlier Nitish had decided against fielding a candidate but on Wednesday he campaigned in the town.
Taking a high moral ground Nitish had in February justified the state unit party decision saying it was a policy not to participate in the bypolls if the seat fell vacant because of the demise of a sitting member not belonging to the JDU.
Within a week the JDU announced to field its candidate from Jehanabad bypoll claiming to do so on the appeal of alliance partner BJP.
Slamming Nitish who addressed a public meeting with deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi as part of the election campaign Tejashwi said: "Nitish Chacha is bizarre. He had earlier given the excuse of morality and later fielded his party candidate. There has to be some limit in making a U-turn."
The way Nitish justified not to field candidates on seats that fell vacant after demise, he did not justify after fielding a candidate. It was JDU unit president Bashishtha Narayan Singh who was put forward to justify saying that the party decided only because the BJP requested them.
Tejashwi said: "The credibility of Nitish Kumar has eradicated completely because he makes U-turns so fast that one cannot even imagine in his wildest dream. He does not take mild turns but a complete U-turn. He is the national president of the JDU and also the chief minister. It does not look nice if leaders of his stature do such things."
