Police on Tuesday said action against the teaser, who allegedly stalked and abused a college student and her brother in Saichak on Sunday afternoon, would be taken only after proper inquiry.

“The police have found certain points that need proper investigation. We need to be balanced. Else, things would not be right. At present, the probe is on from every possible angle. The police would be initiating action shortly,” said an officer at Beur police station, under the jurisdiction of which the alleged incident took place.

The girl, who is a MA student at the city-based JD Women’s College, in her statement to the police on Monday, had said that she was riding pillion on her younger brother’s bike back to her residence from the market when two road Romeos, one of them identified as Deepak, chased them for more than 2km on another bike.

The duo constantly kept passing lewd comments on the duo and singing vulgar Bhojpuri numbers.

When the siblings reached the gate of their residence, the men rammed into the bike of the girl’s brother, almost throwing them off balance. The men continued to tease the 21-year-old girl and roughed up her brother till family members came to their rescue hearing the girl’s screams for help.

“The girl’s family and that of Deepak’s reside in the same locality. Initial investigations hint that there was trouble brewing between the two families since long over some issue. However, the police are not reaching any conclusion at the present stage. The fresh trouble might have been triggered by the long-standing feud. The police would carry out thorough investigations and record the statements of the members of both the families and their neighbours,” said the officer.

Meanwhile, with no arrest so far, the girl claimed that she was not feeling safe at all.

“Today (Tuesday), I went to my college for Saraswati Puja celebrations and some family members and friends of Deepak were staring at me the moment I stepped out of my residence. When I was waiting for an autorickshaw near Beur Chowk, another family member of the teaser’s family was staring at me and also pointing at me at times. I am really scared and need the help of the police,” the girl told The Telegraph.
