Of Patna schoolchildren is 14-year-old Sushmit, who will take part in the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference being organised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Ahmedabad in February.

Youth voice…

Sushmit has represented in several environmental conferences. NGO Tarumitra sent Sushmit to Japan in October 2010 to take part in International Children’s Conference on Biodiversity, organised by UNEP. In September 2011, he went to Indonesia for the UNEP Tunza International Children & Youth Conference.

Rank winner…

Is Sushmit who has taken part in more than 30 elocution competitions, quizzes and debates in the past seven years. He has also ranked among the top candidates in several Olympiads, including second position in school in the Millennium Examination Council last year.

Sibling love…

Inspires Sushmit. He counts on elder sister Shriya to motivate him in difficult times. Mother Ranjana Mondal is also a driving force behind his achievements.

Role models…

For Sushmit are school headboy and neighbour Shaurya Arav and teachers Sheel Thakur (history) and Usha David (English).

Future goal…

For Sushmit is to become an electronic engineer.
