National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna student Nancy Kumari has secured an annual package of Rs 40.63 lakh from Adobe Systems India Private Limited, becoming the first from the institute to touch Rs 40 lakh during campus placement.

Nancy, a computer science student of the 2015-19 batch, was selected by the IT major after a written test and interview. Those who cleared the written test in October last week were called for the interview in Calcutta. Six students from NIT Patna were among those called for the interview, but only Nancy, who is from Sitamarhi, cleared it.

Nancy, 22, said: “The interview went into different rounds with experts asking topics from different subjects. As I answered, meeting their expectations, I was sure of clearing the interview.”

NIT Patna student Medha Kumari — originally from Madhubani — had scripted history by securing a job at AdobeIndia at a Rs 39.5-lakh package last year.

Nancy, whose parents run a business in Sitamarhi, around 210km northeast of Patna, said she had always been focused on her studies but after joining NIT-Patna’s computer science course, she found a balance of studies and extra-curricular activities.

The NIT Patna administration was happy with their student’s achievement.

Placement in-charge Samrat Mukherjee hoped other students would also get such similar packages.

He said that till date, 33 companies have visited the institute for placement with around 75 per cent students clearing the process.

Amazon is the second highest paymaster after Adobe — it has hired two students with a package of Rs 20.5 lakh each. Travel technology company Sabre Corporation has taken five students at a package of Rs 14 lakh each, while 17 students have been placed at the research and development wing of Samsung Technology with a package of Rs 10.5 lakh each.
