Saran SP faces action in rejig

Patna, Aug. 27: The superintendent of police of Saran, which witnessed the July 16 midday meal tragedy, has been transferred in a shuffle of IPS officers today.

Sujit Kumar, the SP, will now be assistant to inspector-general of police (inspection). Only yesterday, Saran district magistrate Abhijit Sinha faced the action in a major rejig of IAS officers also when he was sent to Aurangabad. Samastipur SP Varun Kumar Sinha will replace Sujit.

Today’s shuffle also witnessed transfer of the SSP in Gaya district, which witnessed the state’s first terrorist attack in Bodhgaya on July 7. SSP Ganesh Kumar has been sent on central deputation in the Intelligence Bureau with the 2005-batch officer Nalanda SP, Nishant Kumar Tiwary, replacing him. Buxar SP Siddharth Mohan Jain will take Nishant’s place.

Babu Ram, a 2009-batch officer, who had been removed as Sheikhpura SP and asked to report to the police headquarters on January 28 following an allegation of serious torture lodged against him by a 20-year-old man, has been reinstated as Buxar SP.

The victim, identified as Mukesh Kumar, a liquor salesman by profession, had alleged torture in the hands of Babu Ram and other police officers at the SP’s residence on January 27 this year. Babu Ram was later made the Commandant BMP-16.

Among the senior police officers, Vinay Kumar who was serving as IG (CID) has been made the DG (provisions). Nayyar Hasnain Khan, a 1996-batch IPS officer, who was serving as DIG (Magadh), has been sent on central deputation as DIG (SSB). The 1996-batch IPS officer, Bachchu Singh Meena, who was serving as DIG (Purnea) has been made the DIG (Magadh). DIG (Special Branch) Paras Nath has taken Meena’s position. Also, Deepak Barnwal, a 2010-batch IPS officer, has been made Khagaria SP.
