Students from remote villages are not behind their urban counterparts in their understanding of scientific issues, an exhibition organised on National Education Day has reaffirmed.

The state education department organised the three-day exhibition, which concluded on Sunday, to promote scientific talent among students.

The project of Alok Kumar Sharma, a Class XII student of Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi High School, Chanan, Banka, on the methods to conserve soil moisture was on display at the exhibition at AN College, among many others. The work was adjudged the best project at National Inspire Award in New Delhi on October 23 where he was felicitated by the Union science and technology minister, Vayalar Ravi. State education minister P.K. Shahi also felicitated Alok.

A quiz on current affairs by students of Chanakya National Law University and a drama by students of Chandragupt Institute of Management were the other highlights of this year’s National Education Day function.

National Education Day is celebrated on November 11 every year to mark the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of India.

“By March 31 next year, 76,000 new classrooms will be constructed while in the next one year, the mid-day meal scheme will cover more than 90 per cent students in schools,” deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said, stressing that the education scenario was improving.
