Patna: Walk or use bicycles but shun cars - that was the message sent out at an event to spread green awareness on the eve of World Environment Day.
Around 100 people, among them differently-abled children and their parents, gymnasts, social activists and environmentalists, participated in a run to spread the message of preservation and conservation of the environment.
The run jointly organised by the special school Samarpan, Bihar Paralympic Committee and Bihar Disabled Sports Academy, began from near the Income Tax roundabout and culminated at Gate No 1 of Eco Park. State disabilities commissioner Shivajee Kumar led the group in the run.
Shivajee asked residents to develop the habit of walking and cycling instead of using vehicles for commuting. "Plant as many trees as you can and avoid using plastic. Don't spit here and there on the roads. After all, this is our city. It is our responsibility to keep it clean," he said.
Non-government organisation Tarumitra also organised an array of activities in collaboration with the Bihar State Pollution Control Board. Volunteers from Patna University, St. Xavier's High School and Patna Women's College took part in the ghat cleaning exercise at Kali Ghat along with some students from Bettiah in the morning.
In the second half, a flash mob and skit was organised at Patna Central mall by the students on the theme Beat the Plastic.
