Patna: The state police headquarters has ordered a probe into allegations levelled by don-turned-politician Anant Singh against an inspector-general (IG)-rank officer posted at the police headquarters.

Anant, an Independent legislator from Mokama Assembly seat in Patna rural, accused Kundan Krishnan, a 1994-batch IPS officer, of hatching a conspiracy with his rivals in the Mokama region to get him eliminated. Kundan is at present IG (operations) at the police headquarters and is also in-charge of Greyhound-trained special task force (STF).

The latest accusation against IG Kundan followed the killing of a youth in a landmine explosion near Kanhaipur village under the jurisdiction of Mokama police station last week. Two others, suspected to be residents of Mokama, also suffered injuries in the blast. The detonator reportedly exploded when a group of criminals were trying it out in the village. Initial reports suggested that the criminals were assigned to target Anant Singh during his visit to the constituency.

Kundan and Anant had been on a warpath ever since Kundan assumed charge as IG, Patna zone, in May 2015. The differences between the IPS officer and the MLA came to the fore when the former (read Kundan) initiated action against Anant and his associates in the 2014 case of kidnapping of a realtor, Raju Singh, from Bihta area in Patna rural.

On June 24, 2015, the MLA was arrested from his official residence in Patna for his alleged involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of a youth in Barh.

He fought the 2015 Assembly polls from behind the bars and won. He was released on bail recently.

A senior police officer said on Saturday that the police headquarters has ordered Patna superintendent of police (rural) Lalan Mohan Prasad to supervise the case related to the death of a youth in a landmine blast and Anant Singh's allegations.

When contacted, SP (rural) Prasad said: "I have no idea about any such directive as I had gone for mid-career training. I will be able to make official comment in two days." said P.K. Mandal, SP in the CID, who was given additional charge of SP (rural) in Prasad's absence.

Mandal said the identity of the deceased (killed in the landmine explosion) was yet to be ascertained. "Preliminary investigation suggested that the target of the criminals was a local goon, who is an accused in a rape case and not Anant Singh," he told The Telegraph.

Kundan, however, refused to make any comment.
