Patna: Household electrification work in Munger district will be complete in 2-3 days and in seven other districts by June end, in another milestone for the state in the power sector.
The eight districts where all households will be electrified by the end of this month are Munger, Gopalganj, Sheikhpura, Bhojpur, Purnea, Kishanganj, Nalanda and Supaul.
Bihar State Power Holding Company chairman-cum-managing director Pratyaya Amrit confirmed it and said: "Munger is the first district where we will complete household electrification work within two to three days and we are aiming to complete the work in seven more districts by June end."
The household electrification project - launched by the Bihar government as Har Ghar Bijli in November 2016 as part of the seven resolves programme - is being done to complete the work by December end this year, three months ahead of the March 2019 deadline set by the Centre.
The Centre had come up with a similar scheme, Saubhagya, in September last year.
In Bihar, the household electrification is being done by North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited.
Pratyaya said for now, special emphasis is being laid on household electrification work in north Bihar districts, as these are flood-prone. It becomes tough for field officials to carry out work on the ground in the monsoon season when floods haunt the north Bihar region.
The power companies have also published advertisements with details of phone numbers using which the willing families can approach the companies for a power connection. For now, these advertisements have been issued for Kishanganj, Supaul, Gopalganj and Purnea districts.
So far as household electrification work is concerned, 25 lakh households had to be provided power when the scheme was launched in 2016. So far, the power companies have reached around a million households and by June end, it is expected to cross the 1.2-million mark.
Sources in the power companies hinted that efforts were being made to complete the household electrification work in Bihar well ahead of December 31 deadline set by the government.
