Patna (PTI): A police officer posted at Bakhtiyarpur police station as its station house officer (SHO) was on Thursday arrested by the vigilance officials for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000, an official said.

Acting on a complaint, a vigilance team laid a trap and caught SHO Dhananjaya Kumar Sinha red-handed accepting the amount from one Vinay Kumar Sinha, a native of Kewal Bigha village, said additional director-general of police, vigilance, P.K. Thakur.

The SHO had demanded the bribe from the complainant for lodging an FIR in connection with a land dispute, he said. Sinha was brought to Patna for questioning prior to his production before a special vigilance court for judicial remand, Thakur said.

Woman killed

Biharsharif: One Tetari Devi (35), was killed and two others injured on Thursday after two groups opened fire at each other at Islampur in Nalanda district, police said. A feud broke out over a piece of land between the two groups. She was cooking on the roof of her house at Lalji Bigha village when she was hit by the bullet.

Bar election

Motihari: The general election of the district Bar association, held every two years, passed off peacefully on Thursday. About 1,600 advocates who had come down from every part of the district took part in the poll process to elect the office bearers of the Bar association for the next two years.

The results will be announ- ced on Friday after counting of the votes, said election observer and senior lawyer Mohammad Taiyab.

Homemaker hurt

Bhagalpur: A group of five or six youths on Thursday entered a house at Barari Housing Colony and allegedly fired at a housewife, injuring her. Sources said the woman had protested against the youths for attempting to molest her sister. Puja Devi has been admitted to JLNMC Hospital.

Girl dies in fire

Banka: An eight-year-old girl, Yasmin, was killed on Thursday after a fire broke out at Kamalpur hamlet under Dhoriya block. According to police, more than 100 houses were gutted in the blaze.
