Memorial lecture
A memorial lecture was organised by Xavier Institute of Social Research (XISR) at St Xavier's High School on "Understand caste to bridge the communal divide".
Human rights activist Teesta Setalvad said: "To understand communal violence, we have to understand the prejudices and discrimination based on caste. People from the lower castes have been oppressed for years and the situation is still the same. It is strange that incidents of communal violence take place in a society where people from different religions have been comfortably living together for a long time."
