Patna, Jan. 6: At first they could only crawl, then they learnt to walk and stood upright.

Residents of the state can now learn this fascinating story about the human evolution through exhibits at a park that is all set to come up at Chirand in Saran, 60km north of Patna.

This is the first of its kind park to come up in the state, said a source.

The park is also likely to draw attention of tourists and history students — tools from the Neo-Chalcolithic age have been excavated from here.

Atul Verma, the excavation and exploration officer of the art and culture department, said Chirand is the only Neo-Chalcolithic site in the country.

Rare tools used by pre-historic men to give desired shape to bone tools were found here.

Similar pre-historic tools have been found in France, Verma added.

Two acre of land has already been acquired for the park.

Replicas and reconstructed models of dress, tools, means of livelihood of human beings would be exhibited at the museum — from the pre-historic to the ancient period, said a source.

Replicas of ancient flora and fauna would also be exhibited at the park, the source added.

Efforts are being made to find out details about the varieties of plants that existed in the pre-historic age. These would be reproduced to give the park a natural look.

Experts would be roped in so that the way of living of human beings through the various stages of evolution can be shown.

“The purpose of setting up the park is to attract tourists. Our cultural heritage is very rich and it needs to be promoted to attract tourists,” K.P. Ramaiah, the principal secretary of the art and culture department, told The Telegraph.

Keeping tourists and visitors in mind, a food court, parking space and other facilities would also be provided on the premises of the park, said a source.

The tourism and the art and culture departments are likely to collaborate to set up the park, added Ramaiah.

“The details of the project are still being worked out,” said Ramaiah.
