TECH BOOST: St Xavier's High School

St Xavier's High School, Patna, will soon provide online reports about the students to their parents through an e-Care system installed by Franciscan E-care Information System.

The new initiative taken by the school administration will provide information including attendance, results, assignments, remarks, activities and performance of students. The school will provide the software to both ICSE board and Bihar board students.

Monu Ranjan, the school activity in-charge, said a helpdesk has been set up near the main office building of the school for parents and students.

"A volunteer from the company is helping and giving first-hand information to parents and students about how this software works and what information they can access," he said.

Father Manish Osta, vice-principal of the school, said: "From school attendance to getting leave application approved to online library, digital notice board about school activities, sharing students' progress, images and videos with parents through mobile apps. Everything will be done online. This system will help the school to function more efficiently and keep up with the digital world."

Sumit Kumar, regional manager of Franciscan E-care Information System, said the software will digitise different aspects of the school such as academic performance and upcoming events. "It will bridge the gap between school administration and parents. From time to time, parents will get update about their kids. It is the second school in Patna (after St Karen's High School) which has adopted this system," he added.

Parents and students welcomed the initiative.

Kumar Anmol, a Class VII student, said a few days back when it rained, the school failed to notify the holiday. "Sometimes, it is very difficult to know whether the school is open or not and nobody answered the school office number. This system will help students to know if school is closed due to any reason," he said.

"My mother keeps worrying whether I reached school or not," said Rashmi, a Class XII student of the Bihar board wing. "For that reason, sometimes I carry a cellphone to inform her. Through this online system, she will be informed that I have reached school. The reason why she gets worried is that our classes continue till 7pm."

Ravikant Singh, whose son studies in Class IX, said: "The daily academic report about my son will help me know his strengths and weaknesses. I can directly interact with the teachers and take their help."

Another parent Shailendra Kumar, whose son and daughter study at the school, said: "When I heard about this software for the first time, I thought it would be complicated. But I found it very user-friendly. I appreciate the school administration for taking this initiative."
