Patna, July 26: The state urban development department today failed to take any decision on the fate of the present Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner Divesh Sehara.

The corporation board had passed a resolution yesterday to remove Sehara. Mayor Afzal Imam issued an order today notifying additional commissioner (planning and development) Chandrama Singh as commissioner-in-charge till the government took a stand on the issue. The copies of the order were sent to Sehara and the urban development department principal secretary, Shashi Shekhar Sharma.

The mayor said he had issued the letter according to the Section 27B of Bihar Municipal Act (amended), 2011.

Deputy mayor Vinay Kumar Pappu said there are reports that Rahul Singh could be the next PMC commissioner. This, however, could not be confirmed.

The PMC employees’ union (Indian National Trade Union Congress) opposed the resolution passed by the corporation board and accused that the step was taken because the present commissioner had highlighted the fudging of bills by A2Z Infrastructure Private Limited, the private agency awarded the contract of cleaning a part of the city.

“The commissioner has done the right thing by stopping the payment of A2Z Infrastructure Private Limited. The investigations carried out by the PMC officers revealed that the firm had blatantly breached the clauses of contract and tried to over bill the civic body. Still, why the corporation board is keen to clear the dues of the firm?” Chandra Prakash Singh, the president of the union, asked.
