Nod to firing probe panel

Patna, July 2: The cabinet today gave its nod to the constitution of an inquiry committee headed by retired high court judge Rajendra Prasad and compensation for the family members of persons killed and injured in the Bagaha firing incident.

Cabinet co-ordination secretary Brajesh Mehrotra said: “The family members of those killed in the incident will get Rs 5 lakh. Seriously injured persons will get Rs 50,000 while those who suffered minor injuries will get Rs 25,000. Ganesh Kumar, who is undergoing treatment for a broken backbone, would be provided Rs 5 lakh.”

The state government also decided to set up more units of Special Task Force to strengthen the security of the state. A formal decision in this regard was taken in the cabinet meeting.

The cabinet gave its approval for creation of 25 additional STF units in Naxalite dominated districts of the state. Mehrotra said: “With the creation of 25 additional units in rebel-hit districts, the state government will incur an expenditure of Rs 49 crore yearly.” The cabinet also gave its nod for release of Rs 425 crore for establishment of a 25MW power plant under solar PV modules at Nawada district by M/s Response Renewable Energy Ltd, Calcutta.

Under the agriculture roadmap, the cabinet released Rs 45.08 lakh for procurement of seeds, along with sanctioning of Rs 384.35 crore for the fiscal year 2013-14 for development of horticulture under the Bihar Horticulture Development Society. The cabinet also sanctioned releasing Rs 132.32 crore for the fiscal year 2013-14, as salary grant for secondary school contract teachers. In another decision under the social welfare department, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 45 crore under the Chief Minister’s Viklang Sashaktikaran Yojana “Sambal”.

The cabinet sanctioned Rs 219.71 crore under the Multi-Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) for the fiscal year 2012-13 in minority dominated districts of state — Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea, Katihar, West Champran, Sitamarhi and Darbhanga. Moreover, for the fiscal year 2013-17, MSDP projects would be covered in 20 districts, including 13 new districts having high minority population and for this the cabinet sanctioned Rs 830 crore.

“The MSDP programme will cover 75 minority dominated blocks in 20 districts and the fund will be used for to construct madarsas, minority hostels, schools and others,” said Mehrotra.

Altogether 17 agendas were given a nod.
