House scheme

Patna: Divisional commissioner N. Vijaya Lakshmi on Friday directed the deputy development commissioner to look into the complaints regarding alleged irregularities in allotting benefits of housing schemes to poor people in Bakhtiyarpur block of Patna district. he received several complaints in this regard during her weekly janata durbar on Friday.

Felicitation

Tubewells

Police cane activists

Munger, Aug. 22: Police today caned protesters who were staging a protest in Jamalpur demanding rollback of enhanced rates of municipal taxes and division of the township into different categories for deciding tax rates. hree agitators were taken in custody. The agitators alleged highhandedness on part of police and claimed that they had been denied the right to protest in democratic fashion.

Muzaffarpur: Excise department officials conducted a raid in Mohammadpur village and unearthed an illicit liquor factory on Friday and arrested two persons in this connection.

Sasaram (PTI): Criminals looted gold ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh and Rs 9,000 from a jeweller, Anil Kumar Soni, at Maliabag village in Rohtas on Thursday night.

Woman dead

Katihar (PTI): A 32-year-old woman, Meera Devi, died after consuming poison at Muradpur Thakur Tola in the district on Thursday night following which three persons, including her husband, were arrested on the charge of abetting suicide.

Bribe arrest

Patna (PTI): Vigilance investigation bureau sleuths on Friday caught Hareram Sah, the Alauli police station house officer in Khagaria, while allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 as bribe from a person for stopping construction work on a disputed plot of land.
