Power officials held for extortion

Patna: Three officials of the Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited, including sub-divisional officer Sameer Kumar Rajak, have been arrested in Sitamarhi district on the charge of extortion from power consumers. he police also seized Rs 27,000 from the officials. Belsand sub-divisional police officer Santosh Kumar said all the three power holding corporation officials and a middleman have been booked on the charge of extortion

3 killed in road mishap

Gopalganj (PTI): Three persons were killed and nine others injured in two road accidents on Saturday evening. wo boys, identified as Amit Kumar (13) and Tinku (10), were killed and seven others injured when their van overturned near Salarpur village under the jurisdiction of Jirinagar police station. n another accident, a man, whose identity could not be ascertained, was killed and two others were injured when their car collided with a bus near Siwan-Badharia main road.

Cong slams Lalu

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Choudhary on Sunday slammed Lalu Prasad for calling party candidate Jitendra Swami as votekatwa (spoiler). Choudhary said the remark is a result of Lalu’s frustration and it prove that Swami is a strong candidate.

Attack flak

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Choudhary on Sunday likened the Naxalite attack in Chhattisgarh to an attack on democracy. He also said all the political parties who believe in democracy must come together and think over the issue seriously. He also said the attack on Congress leader is a conspiracy and government in the state must step down.

Patna: Road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav on Sunday visited several assembly constituencies at Maharajganj in support of the JD(U) candidate P.K. Shahi. He appealed the voter to cast their vote in favour of Shahi. BJP state unit president Mangal Pandey also appealed voters.

Agitation

Patna: BJP spokesperson Sanjay Mayukh on Sunday said the party would launch “jail bharo andolan” across the state from May 27 to June 2 in protest against the alleged corruption of the UPA government.

Durbar cancelled

Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi’s weekly janata durbar scheduled on May 28 has been cancelled. Modi will campaign in Maharajganj for the by-election.

Rule for medicos

Patna: Patna Medical College and Hospital superintendent Amar Kant Jha Amar said he has received a notification from Vyasji, principal secretary, health, to ensure that doctors do the rounds of the health hub in the morning and evening everyday. Jha said though the rule was already in force, many doctors were not following it.

Appointment

Patna: Ophthalmologist Sunil Kumar Singh, vice-president of Indian Medical association, Bihar branch, has been elected as the vice-president of JD(U)’s medical cell.

Inauguration

Patna: Bihar Cardiology Care Centre, a hospital for heart patients, was inaugurated on Sunday at Kankerbagh.
