The Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari, will conduct its own recruitment test for 12 undergraduate and two postgraduate courses starting September 5.

State universities usually only conduct the interview of prospective faculty members after assessing their academic records.

"The university will conduct a written test for recruitment of teachers in the rank of assistant professors," Arvind Agarwal, the newly appointed vice-chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi Central University, said on Friday. "After the written test, five successful candidates will be called for live demonstration of classes in presence of experts of the subjects concerned."

The shortlisted candidates from both the process will have to sit through an interview before the final selection.

Agarwal's statement assumes importance as even the Bihar Public Service Commission is only interviewing candidates for its ongoing recruitment process for assistant professors in state universities.

In the first phase, the central university will recruit 60 assistant professors, 30 associate professors and 15 professors. The written test will only be for the assistant professors.
