The group clashes following the recovery of a youth's body and the subsequent death of four persons appear to be the new shrapnel in the BJP's arsenal to sharpen its attack on the JDU government.
The party's poster boy in Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi, was the first person to use the ammunition to launch a scathing attack on the state government on Tuesday while visiting the troubled areas - limping back to normal. After meeting the affected people, he claimed that the incident was a trailer of the lawlessness prevailing in the state ever since the talks of the JDU-RJD merger began. He said the decline in fear of law enforcing agencies added to the problem.
Modi visited Ajitpur Bahilwara village under Saraiya police station, around 60km north of Patna, with a host of party leaders on Tuesday. He stayed for an hour and met the youth's family. After parleys with the kin of the four others killed in the clashes on Sunday, Modi demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family of each victim.
'The incident is the fallout of the tussle between senior JDU leader Nitish Kumar and chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. If their fight continues, such incidents will recur. Neither of the duo has visited the village till now,' Modi said.
Blaming the police for the bloodshed, the Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Council said senior officers first ignored the seriousness of the complainant filed by the deceased youth's family after he went missing. Second, the police reached the village late.
Modi said deputy superintendent of police (east) Sanjay Kumar and the Saraiya police station house officer (SHO), Ashutosh Kumar, must be taken to task for their negligence.
Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of Ranjit Mishra said he had received information about the alleged carelessness of DSP Sanjay and the SHO of Saraiya police station, Ashutosh Kumar. He said: Circle inspector (Paroo) Sudhakarnath, Saraiya SHO Ashutosh and the investigating officer of the case, Sandip Kumar, have been removed and asked to report to the police lines.' Saraiya sub-divisional police officer Sanjay Kumar has also been transferred on the probe team's recommendation. Manoj Kumar will replace him.
Inspector-general of Tirhut zone Parasnath said the police would verify the alleged role of Paroo BJP MLA Ashok Kumar Singh in blocking the police's path in a day or two.
BJP leader Modi, however, denied any role of the MLA in disrupting the movement of the police.
