Police on Friday heaved a sigh of relief as a missing St Michael’s High School student returned home in the afternoon.

The Class X student was found in Amritsar on Thursday. He was back home on Friday.

The boy, son of a senior teacher of Patna University, went missing from his upscale Nageshwar Colony house on Wednesday. He allegedly left home because he was unhappy with his marks in mathematics.

Confirming the safe return of his son, the Patna University teacher said he had informed the Buddha Colony police about the matter. “He was found in Amritsar yesterday (on Thursday) and subsequently brought to Patna,” he said.

The boy was taken to a family doctor for medical check-up as he was under depression.

“The boy was not happy with the marks he had obtained in mathematics in a school examination. The result of his summative examination was declared only a few days ago,” said a relative of the boy.

The relative said the boy himself called his father on his cellphone around 9pm on Thursday and informed him about his whereabouts.

“We immediately contacted one of our family acquaintances, who rushed to the spot and took him home,” he said.

The missing boy was brought back to Patna in the afternoon on Friday.

“A police team would quiz the boy once he is out of depression. A missing case was lodged on the basis of a written complaint submitted by the father of the missing boy on Wednesday,” said Sarwali Ali, an officer posted at Buddha Colony police station.

A source close to the family said the boy went into depression after allegedly being scolded by a teacher of his school for his poor performance in the exam. He told his parents about the incident, but they reportedly did not pay heed to his complaint. They instead asked the boy to concentrate on his studies.

Getting no support from the family on the issue, the boy allegedly decided to leave home and boarded a train for Amritsar.

“Thank God, no untoward incident happened with the boy. He is very shy and avoids social interactions. His decision to leave home has left every one surprised,” the relative of the boy told The Telegraph.

The father of the boy claimed that his son was upset after he returned home from the school on October 1. He left home around 4pm.

“When he did not return home till late in the evening, we decided to report the matter to the police and a missing case was lodged,” the father of the boy said.

The officers of the Buddha Colony police station were relieved after the boy retu- rned home. “We were wor- ried about his well-being,” said a cop.
