Chhapra will soon have a facility like the P&M Mall in Patna |
The urban development department has taken an initiative to modernise the Saran district headquart- ers to facilitate the town’s development.
A team of Support Programme for Urban Reforms (SPUR), an authorised organisation of the department, was sent to Chhapra around a fortnight ago for scouting plots for a supermarket, mall and wedding hall.
The urban development department will undertake the project on public-private partnership basis. While the Chhapra Nagar Parishad will provide land for the project, the department will provide the money.
SPUR team members — architect Sutnu Sen, livelihood officer Shishir Ghosh and cluster co-ordinator Sanjay Srivastav — will evaluate the possible expenditure of the projects. Then, the team would get plans for the three projects approved by urban development department.
The team visited Chhapra in the last week of November.
Nagar Parishad chairperson Shobha Devi said the SPUR team held a meeting with the empowerment committee of the civic body to discuss the expenditure, benefits and possibilities of the projects.
The team, Shobha Devi said, considered the sites in front of Shilpee pond and Sarkari Bazaar under the jurisdiction of Town police station and Shyamchak under the jurisdiction of Bhagwanpur police station fit for constructing the supermarket, mall and marriage halls.
She added: “The town will see development once the projects are ready. The supermarket will ensure that unregulated shops do not come up in the town and the residents can experience the mall culture popular in cities.”
