Patna, Sept. 14: Thresiamma, a BEd student of St Xavier’s College of Education, feels that it is not necessary to have a new legislation to fight corruption. Strengthen the existing acts would be enough, she feels.
She was one of the 60 students from the college’s BEd and MEd departments who took part in an essay competition on “Relevance of Lokpal bill” on Hindi Divas today.
Thresiamma said: “Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, should be strengthened rather than having a new bill. A new act cannot be a solution. We should devise ways for the effective implementation of the existing laws.”
Beena K.Y., another BEd student, had a different take on the topic. “Trust has to be established between the government and civil society for an effective and strong Lokpal,” said Beena.
The results of the essay competition will be announced in November while the winners would be felicitated on December 3, the institution’s College Day.
