Patna, Nov. 12: Shivnath Gupta, a 75-year-old resident of Chenari block in Rohtas is running from pillar to post to get possession of 25 cottahs of ancestral property land.
Land mafia have set an eye on Gupta's land located at Chenari-Kudra which is valued in crores and have threatened him on several occasions to leave the ownership of land. Gupta has approached several officials, including the Rohtas district magistrate, the SP and other officials with his problem, but the administration has failed to take any action.
Shivnath said: "As I and my wife live alone at Chenari, land mafia in connivance with some of my relatives have set an eye to grab my ancestral land. The land mafia on several occasions has threatened me, asking me to leave the ownership of land." Gupta claimed that in this connection, on November 6, he met Rohtas SP Manawjeet Singh Dhillon seeking his help.
When The Telegraph asked Dhillon about the Gupta case, he said: "Several people come to me with their problems, I don't remember the exact case of Gupta. However, cases pertaining to land dispute is forwarded to the circle officer." Gupta, a retired non-teaching employee from Beni Singh College (Rohtas) lives alone at Chenari with his wife. Gupta said: "My sons are working outside Bihar. One of my sons Sanjay Gupta is working for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in Kazakhstan."
He added: "As my sons are working in different states, there is no one to help me." The land mafia in groups of 10 to 12 occasionally visit my house and threaten me and my wife."
