Patna: Police have arrested two men for an attempt to murder an army jawan on March 11 morning.
The arrested duo were identified as Ajit Kumar, a resident of village Raghopur district Vaishali, and Krishna Kumar, a resident of Rupaschiriya Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district.
The arrested confessed to have fired on Ajit on March 11 morning, to loot the jawan passing through Chiraiyatand area.
The jawan, Arun Kumar Rai, is admitted at Paras HMRI and is undergoing treatment.
"The arrested criminals confessed before the police that they were involved in the firing incident," said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj. "There were six men, including Kanhai and Golu, in the gang behind the incident."
Maharaaj said: "The arrested, Ajit, told police that he was riding the bike, while Kanhai fired on the army jawan from the pillion seat."
Police sources said Kanhai and Golu were notorious criminals living in Patna's Daldali. Based on inputs provided by the arrested duo, the police have prepared sketches and are conducting raids to nab the four other criminals.
Sources added that the attack on the jawan exposes the hollowness of Patna police claims.
A team comprising deputy superintendent of police (DSP) town, S.H. Hasmi, station house officers of Gandhi Maidan and Pirbhore police stations area has been formed to crack the case.
The police based on footage collected from CCTV cameras and intelligence inputs came to know that a few hours before the Chiraiyatand incident, a loot occurred at Ashok Rajpath area under Pirbhore police station area.
The police based on CCTV footage nabbed Ajit and Krishna. The two confessed before the police that they were also involved in the firing incident at Chiraiyatand.
The patient, Arun Kumar Rai, is undergoing treatment at Paras HMRI Hospital and his condition is said to be out of danger. Arun's relative, Munna Kumar, said: "The patient is recovering fast and he will be discharged from hospital soon."
The hospital has also refunded Rs 1.5 lakh that jawan Arun Kumar Rai's family had deposited for his treatment at the hospital as a gesture to the Indian Army.
