| Supreme Court judge Aftab Alam, with Legislative Council chairman Tarakant Jha (left) by his side, garlands a picture of Justice KBN Singh. Justice Alam was in the state capital to inaugurate Justice KBN Singh Memorial Law Research Centre-cum-reference library at Patna College on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Justice Alam said setting up a legal research-cum-library was the need of the hour in the country. “You take up any case, be it title, eviction or claims suits in which judgments have been pronounced. When was it filed, when was a written statement filed, when was evidence of plaintiffs and defendants recorded, how many times presiding officers were changed during hearing… you will find some interesting facts,” he said. Rajya Sabha member Ravi Shankar Prasad donated Rs 10 lakh from his MPLAD funds to Patna College. Jha asked the college authorities to utilise most of the money for the research centre. He also said if the college needed any financial help, he would try to get funds from the state government. Patna University vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh was also present on the occasion. The centre has been set up in the memory of Justice KBN Singh, who was the chief justice of Patna and Madras high courts. Text by Anand Raj, picture by Jai Prakash |
