The social welfare department, in collaboration with Unicef and some NGOs, on Wednesday organised a state-level consultation for taking suggestions for the proposed state policy for children.

Social welfare minister Parveen Amanullah said the views of the dignitaries, who took part in the consultation, would be taken into consideration while formulating the state policy for children. Among dignitaries, who took part in the programme, were principal secretary, education, Amarjeet Sinha, Vijoy Prakash, the principal secretary of the planning and development department, Unicef state chief Yameen Majumdar and others.

Sinha asked the department to include the indicators of Manav Vikas Mission in the proposed state policy for children.

Other speakers suggested that the proposed policy should focus on development of various categories of kids, including children of criminals and those hailing from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Augustine Veliath, communication specialist, Unicef, talked about the various points of the National Policy for Children, 2013. “In the national policy, terms such as inclusive, long-term, family safety have been used. All these are promises to children. The government must consider these points while formulating the policy.”

Amanullah said the proposed policy for children would definitely be a boon for kids in the state.
