Patna, March 10: The Bihar government is yet to identify vending zones in towns and cities.

Responding to a question by Purnea BJP MLA Vijay Kumar Khemka in the Assembly on Thursday, urban development minister Maheshwar Hazari said though a survey had been conducted to identify roadside vendors the zones are yet to be identified.

"In Purnea alone, there are over 2,200 roadside vendors. They will be rehabilitated," the minister said, giving no deadline for identification of vending zones.

Leader of the Opposition Prem Kumar pointed out that two years ago, the government had decided to demark vending zones for roadside vendors and provide them photo identity cards.

Earlier, in response to a question, food and consumer affairs minister Madan Sahni conceded that till March 9, the state government had been able to procure only 30 per cent of its target to procure 30 tonnes of foodgrain from farmers. The state government's food procurement process through its agencies is on till March 31.

The minister announced that the government had procured 9.95 tonnes and paid the farmers Rs 883 crore, BJP MLA Sanjay Sarogi pointed out that till now only 30 per cent of the target had been achieved.

"How does the government propose to procure the remaining target in just 10 days," he asked.

The minister said he had issued orders to speed up the procurement process.

The Opposition criticised the government for its failure to announce bonus for farmers and alleged irregularities.

The questions asked in the Assembly were focused on implementation of Food Security Act and BJP MLAs entered the Well of the House alleging massive irregularities. A large section of below poverty line (BPL) population had been left out of the list of beneficiaries, the Opposition alleged.

RJD MLA Ramanuj Prasad raised the dacoity in Vaishali in which two people were murdered, and demanded speedy action against the culprits.
