Bhagalpur, Aug. 4: Members of the district chapter of Bihar Bengalee Association today staged a dharna on the railway station premises demanding a CBI probe into the murder of Assam student Pritam Bhattacharjee.
The protesters took a dig at the police’s failure to arrest the culprits involved in the murder and demanded more security on trains running through Bihar.
The association, which fights for the cause of Bengali literature in Bihar, is the first social organisation to come out and protest against the murder of the youth, whose body was found in Naugachia, 260km east of Patna.
More than 1,000 people from various social groups participated in the dharna.
“We have received support from different student bodies in the Northeast. A memorandum with the signature of more than 300 people from various walks of lives has been sent to chief minister Nitish Kumar through the Bhagalpur district magistrate, Prem Singh Meena,” said Nirupam Kanti Pal, the secretary of the association, Bhagalpur.
